From an award-winning college viewbook to annual reports and more, browse through some of the long-form publications I’ve worked on cover to cover.
An award-winning viewbook

“The college that will change your life so you can change the world.”
I was the sole copywriter on a small team that put together an award-winning college viewbook.
This viewbook was mailed to students who requested information about the College, and it was used by admissions counselors as they traveled and recruited. It relies heavily on images and strong headlines to provide an impression of what it’s like to attend this institution.
From over 4,500 entries, this publication won a Silver Circle of Excellence Award in the international CASE competition for higher ed recruitment publications.
Judges noted:
“Earlham’s viewbook was clean, clear, consistent, and engaging. Through photography and voice, the piece highlighted all the aspects of being a student at Earlham—from academics to alumni network to opportunities to student life. We thought the copy was friendly and inviting and that this piece, in particular, highlighted an excellent use of in-house talent.”
Sales letters

“The best decision you’ll make this year.”
The term “sales letter” isn’t used often in higher ed, but it’s not uncommon for colleges to use them in the form of a letter or written piece that is meant to “seal the deal” with an admitted student and nudge them to confirm their enrollment.
This front-and-back one-sheeter was included in students’ financial aid packages as a way to remind them of all the reasons they should choose Earlham.
Annual reports

Fayette Community Foundation: 2021 Annual Report
Community foundations serve such an important purpose for local nonprofits and the public at large, so I was thrilled to help the Fayette Community Foundation put together their 2021 annual report.
For this project, I started by creating a pagination document that outlined the document for the designer. This allowed the designer to get started while I worked with the client’s team to finalize copy and content.
Having worked in higher ed and written many annual reports in that industry, I’m familiar with writing for a donor audience and helping nonprofits demonstrate the value they bring to their communities.
